Episode 108 – Ben is back! (So is his ADHD!)

Episode 108
(Air Date: February 12th, 2019)

Happy Halloween! …and Thanksgiving! And Holidays! And New Year’s!

…won’t you be my Valentine?

Okay, so this is the longest hiatus I have taken from Big Fat Vegan Radio since it began.  I’ve taken a month before to post a new episode.  Even two I think.

But it has been three and a half months since my last episode!  Unacceptable, I know, to you as well as it is to me.

I can’t tell you how many times I began recording and then thought “No, this isn’t…  Where am I going with this?  Why am I doing this…  Just don’t post anything yet.  You’re not ready.”

And of course I’ve had some great interview guests in mind and special episodes planned, but making them happen has proved harder now than ever.  Why?

You all know I’ve got the ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome).  Well for nearly a decade I’ve believed that I had that under control.  But over the last year or two it has been really rearing it’s ugly head and making my life unmanageable, but I’ve been too busy ignoring that my ADHD could possibly be the issue.

Periods where I’m unable to focus have become longer and longer, and with them, comes a strange depression — not a SADNESS depression — but I can’t make my brain and body DO anything together. I can’t explain it.  If you’ve experienced it, you know what it’s like.

So I recorded EIGHT awesome interviews for this epic special episode I had in mind.  And while trying to record the intro for that episode, I found myself going on longer and longer.  I realized I have a lot of stuff to get off my chest about what I’m dealing with and how it has me feeling.

Suffice it to say, we may now return to our somewhat irregularly scheduled programming as I am starting to make my way out of my biggest ADHD rut to date.

This episode is kinda personal.  It’ll probably sound weird or manic.  Please be kind.  These days I find I can either work long hours frantically cranking out work, or I’ll stay in bed and just look at Instagram for 7 hours before I get up.  There just is no in between when you’re dealing with ADHD mania and depression.

With that said, I do give you a whole bunch of updates here about the podcast and its future, what Honey had been up to on tour, and how you can help support my new fundraiser and get some awesome perks (including dinner for two in New York City and a trip to go see Cher in Brooklyn!  Yes, the REAL Cher!  Not Chad Michaels!)
