  1. Rather random…but as for the spiffy furniture talk for the small studio (yay Ben!!! Glad you got it!) I suggest skimming through a documentary called “We the Tiny House People.” These people choose to live in RIDICULOUSLY small spaces…they get very innovative and creative with all their living situations. May strike some inginuity ideas to furnish the apartment at a more affordable price then an $8,000 murphy bed. 🙂 Get those creative juices flowin! Enjoy!

Hahahah! Thanks, Rachel! Ben here. Sorry it took so long to see and respond to this post. Our spam filters have been on the fritz and I got behind in sorting through comments.

Thank you for your congrats on the new place. I’m writing you now from the new apartment with my laptop on the window sill as I look out at the gorgeous Manhattan skyline on a rainy night. I can’t believe this is mine! 🙂

I’ve actually seen that documentary. When I started looking into the new apartment, I was really studying up on small spaces (even though this studio apartment is considerably larger than what I had before) and I did get a lot of inspiration from that documentary.

Oddly, it’s actually through the research I was doing that I found Resource Furniture (the company that makes the $8,000 murphy bed.)

It’s definitely a one-day thing. Not something I’m gonna get right away as it will be ages before I can afford that. But if you check out this video:

…you’ll see how one guy turned a small space into multiple rooms. Now this is not something I could do with a rental. (He gutted the place and had it custom re-built to his specs) but what’s impressive here is that ALL the furniture he’s using comes from Resource Furniture, which is where I got the idea. I checked out their showroom and it’s pretty amazing stuff! But in the mean time, I’ll definitely be trying to figure out how to do more with less, and all on a shoestring budget.
